SnippetGuide is from the time I tried out being a Startup. I also wrote my MA thesis about it. My subject was developing a mobile app considering Lean thinking. I thought to myself, if there were just one thing that I would change in Tourism, what would it be... An app that you can use anywhere to learn about the history and it's stories while you travel. Like Google maps with cafes and museums marked on it, but with actual stories that you can listen to.
I took part in a Tourism Hackathon (A weekend event to create a working prototype within 48 hours) to find a team for the idea. And it was successful! We developed a prototype and even got a special prize from Estonian Tourism board as tourism promoters.
The app was moderately used for over 2 years. Available both on AppStore and Google Play, with considerable amount of content.
I created the whole app concept and design. I could even say, that this is what gave me the final push towards Graphic Design as a job and not just a hobby. Sure, at the time I wanted the app to succeed and I worked on it for a while. But I realized, running a business like that I not my interest and something I want to do. I care too little about money to be a good businesswoman. And this is my portfolio not "Lessons learned from running a Startup", so back to what I did in that field.
The best part of this project was, I could think of a concept from start to finish. I could figure out, how to guide users through the app in a way that would be most delightful. Unknown to me (at the time) I was doing pure UX design with my project. I also created all the icons and layouts and made our marketing material.
