Those monster GIF's were used in all sorts of marketing activities. The one above was used to let customers know that Breden is changing its loyalty program. But there's also one cookie monster for the privacy settings. A happy dancing one displayed every time an order was placed successfully. Sales like black friday were often times advertised with the monsters. Customers knew them and connected them directly to Breden.
I've made sooo many monster GIF's over the years. You can find most of them on Giphy.com
Original monsters were created by Mariann Lukka for a fabric print. I only adjusted them a little for animation. The print was quite popular and probably became really successful also because the monsters were 'alive'. Over the years they made a comeback in different situations. The following ones, for example, are 'snowmonsters'.
The GIF's are just 12 frames per second and have a very small color palette to save on file size. It is also always a balance on how much movement there can be. If too many pixels move and animation is too complex, the file size will get too big for reasonable use.
Sometimes I draw sketches to put the idea down. Sometimes the movement is so small and simple that it's not needed. I also re-used many animations and changed only a bit to make something new. Optimized time and money...
